Heaton Park Synagogue Attack: One Victim Appears to Have Been Shot by Officers
In a tragic turn of events, one of the individuals lost at the Manchester synagogue attack appears to have been fatally wounded by law enforcement personnel.
Police Announcement Reveals Firearm Injury
The chief constable of Greater Manchester Police stated that the Home Office pathologist has provisionally determined the man died of a gunshot wound.
“We sought guidance overnight from forensic specialists ahead of detailed autopsies set to occur this afternoon. The expert indicated that preliminary findings show a victim likely sustained a injury matching a gunshot injury.”
Attacker Information
The suspect, a 35-year-old individual, was not carrying a firearm, and the only shots fired came from authorized firearms personnel at the scene.
It is believed the victim was among those positioned at the entrance trying to stop the assailant from gaining entry.
Outcome of Intervention
“It follows therefore that subject to further forensic examination, the wound was unfortunately incurred as a unintended and heartbreaking result of the necessary rapid response taken by our personnel to halt this brutal assault.”
Victims Identified
Both individuals killed in the attack during the synagogue incident located in Manchester earlier this week had been named as 53-year-old Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz, 66 years old.
The men lost their lives when a vehicle was employed to crash through the grounds of the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue, before the attacker targeted attendees in a six-minute rampage that ended only when police with firearms shot at him twice, killing him near the synagogue entrance.
Further Harm
Three others were seriously injured in the violent act on the Day of Atonement, the most sacred occasion in the Jewish year.
The chief constable added, “Medical professionals have informed us that one of the three victims currently receiving treatment has also suffered a firearm injury, which is fortunately non-fatal. Officials think both victims were near each other at the entrance, as worshippers acted bravely to stop the assailant from getting inside.”

Suspect Background
Police named the attacker as Shamie, 35, a UK national of Syrian origin.
Local law enforcement reported that three additional individuals – two male suspects and an older female – had been arrested “on suspicion of commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism”.
