The second-hand marketplace Users Express Displeasure Over Size Modifications
Vinted users have been reacting angrily due to a modification that led to listings displaying inaccurate size information.
This online marketplace has updated its measurement guidelines for women's and children's clothes without notifying all shoppers about the modification.
Digital Channels Response
Many shoppers and sellers are posting online saying Vinted listings now show a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed as a result of the reclassification.
The platform stated the revised method more closely matches comparable marketplaces.
The platform has recommended to review their products and update the measurements by hand if necessary, causing user dissatisfaction.
Measurement Approach Updates
Before the change, the sizes had both a single numeric size and a letter, such as S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes a letter with a size spectrum like S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the sizing has been recategorised - like an L measurement was previously a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
User Stories
Frankie Bridger, who produces content about larger sizing, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Stephanie Gallen, located in Scotland, said garments she listed on Vinted with size 14 labels were showing in the marketplace as larger sizing 20-22.
"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they may become frustrated," she said.
Necessary Adjustments
Another shopper, located in England, explained she became annoyed due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizing for "all her products".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, as I'm chronically ill and selling on Vinted has been paramount after experiencing income reduction," she explained.
Marketplace Information
The app has more than 100 million shoppers, including 18 million in the UK.
It has become a favored option compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion when a surprising modification on the platform has faced criticism: previously, the service retracted a modification concerning shipment methods due to shopper criticism.
